Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Shyla Franklin has been practicing veterinary medicine as a general practitioner and emergency veterinarian for the past eighteen years. Originally from Chicago, she obtained her Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Science in 2000 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. In 2004, she proceeded to receive a Doctorate’s Degree of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois-Veterinary Medical College while simultaneously interning at Brookfield Zoo. Dr. Franklin also studied abroad at The University of Western Australia in Perth, where she cared for some of the world’s most exotic animals. Practicing most of her professional career in Southern California, Dr. Franklin’s portfolio included a variety of celebrity clientele. She has now returned home where she feels invigorated to service the great city that nurtured her. Her veterinary interests include internal medicine, mentoring and dermatology.
Dr. Franklin and her husband, Edwin, have a handsome 5-year old son named Maverick and have recently expanded their family with a beautiful baby girl named Ashya. They are also parents to a 1 year old Siberian Husky named Snowfall and a 15-year old cat named Misty. Not one to forget the importance of a little R&R, on her off time, Dr. Franklin enjoys spending time with her family, watching movies, traveling, eating delicious food and entertaining friends. Her personal interests include writing, acting, dancing and exploring the never-ending universe.
